Jan and Petria Smit practice as SM!T Architects since 1992 in Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa.

We specialize in domestic architecture and believe that the immediate environment (landscape and buildings) should have a direct influence on the architectural approach. We use the landscape as a laboratory for experimentation- farm sheds, materials, colours and climate. This, together with a firm believe in modern principles, resulted in an architecture we believe is appropriate for its region, yet accommodating for contemporary living.
